High Quality Epoxy Painting Perth
Tired of keeping tabs on your concrete slabs? Concrete is a great material for spaces like garages, showrooms, workshops, and even industrial flooring. But concrete simply isn’t going to stand up to the wear, tear, grime, and time you spend walking and working across it.
That’s where epoxy painting can be helpful. This solution combines the best of both worlds: the design options of paint with the durability of epoxy. The result is a floor that can stand up to quite a lot more while delivering exceptional aesthetic value.
Applying this type of paint takes skill and experience, since the paint includes a resin that is different to work with than regular paints. Adding the right amount of resin to a latex acrylic paint actually lets the finish cure and adhere to the concrete. This is a welcome change to plain paint that can chip or flake off over time, leaving worn spots that expose the concrete to damage.
At Hawk CFC, we’re experts in flooring that lasts. We can create a lasting and great looking floor for your commercial or industrial space. Our delamination warranty will protect you and your floors in both material and workmanship.
And since we manufacture our own materials, serving the whole of Western Australia, we can develop a custom resin just for your needs. Call us on 0490 777 761 today for more information.
When is epoxy painting the right choice?
This material adds a number of benefits to any floor it is applied to. Blending it with a paint for your flooring combines aesthetics and function in the same approach. This type of paint has resin added to it, which makes it much more durable than a regular latex paint. In turn, it’s also more long lasting, preventing peeling even in high-traffic areas.
While epoxy painting is more durable than plain paint, it is not quite as durable as other epoxy flooring options. Epoxy coatings tend to be thicker, making them more durable to heat, impact, and traffic. And full-on epoxy flooring is not only the thickest but can also be customised with anti-static and anti-slip additives.
Knowing these differences can help you choose which spaces in your commercial or industrial building are best for epoxy painting, which tends to cost less than other resin flooring options. This paint works great for dressing up areas like garages and patios with vibrant colour. They can also seal concrete (or even steel) to seal surfaces from water, oil, chemicals, and gasoline. This makes them a great option for good looking, easy-to-clean flooring or benchtop work surfaces.
How long does Perth epoxy painting take to apply?
Paint of this sort goes on just like any other type of paint. The coats can be applied with rollers or sprayers. And using a professional installer will ensure a smooth, perfect finish.
This is, in part, because the pros will also know how to properly prepare the surface for the paint itself. This is an often-overlooked step that can have major effects on how long the paint job lasts. The concrete should be cleaned and free of dust and debris. If you aren’t using a tinted or strongly coloured paint, then any stains or discolourings should also be addressed. This can be done by applying a primer.
An installer can prep and paint your floors in 1-2 days, depending on how large they are. If you have a massive industrial space, you’ll want a custom quote for the service to include a project timeline. While epoxy painting will look like it dries fast (and it does), you’ll want to stay off it for several days to allow the resin to fully cure. This is what gives it the durability you’re looking for out of a high-performance floor.
Cure time can take 3-4 days, making the overall average project length 4-6 days in total.
How long lasting is epoxy paint?
While it isn’t quite as durable as a complete resin floor, your paint job should last you several years. Of course, this is also subject to how much traffic and use you make of the flooring. In spaces like garages or gyms, these tend to look better with a refresher coat every two years or so.
Keep in mind that this paint will last longer than a standard acrylic with zero resin in it. That’s because it is also resistant to moisture, corrosion, and chemicals. You can also opt for a clear top coat over the paint layer, which will give it added protection as well as act as a sealant against the elements (or whatever you spill on it).
Can I mix and install epoxy paint myself?
It’s possible to try painting a floor as a DIY project if the space is small. But using premixed paints or attempting to get the ratio of resin to paint right yourself can leave a lot of room for error. If you do try this yourself, be sure you have proper ventilation and pay attention to the dry and cure times.
In a commercial or industrial space, going with a professional installer and properly blended paint will go a long way to making your floors last. Off-the-shelf kits can be tempting even for business owners looking to save a bit of money. But the savings won’t last when your floors start to wear down earlier than they should.
Do flooring finishes come with warranties?
You’ll want to confirm this with the manufacturer of your epoxy paint, but most do as long as they are installed by a professional. Companies will often stand by the quality of their materials if they are applied correctly with prepared surfaces, the right number of coats, and appropriate cure times.
This makes it equally important to look for a flooring installer that also guarantees their workmanship. Anyone who won’t stand by their installation could jeopardise the overall durability (and expense) of your floor.
